William T. O’Brien February 26, 1937 - August 9, 2019

Haverhill – William T. O’Brien, 82, husband of Linda (Hevner) O’Brien, passed away August 9, 2019 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston with his loving family by his side.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Mary E. (Herring) O’Brien. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1955. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves and served his country honorably. Bill was employed as a Stockbroker and worked for many years at the former Western Electric and Lucent Technologies, where he retired. He was an avid athlete who played semi pro hockey for the Amesbury Maples. Bill was a big Boston sports fan, always cheering on his favorite teams. With his father coaching he played on a local softball team. Bill loved the beach and the ocean, and you could often find him surfcasting and bait fishing. He met his wife Linda while serving as a Purser on the Norwegian Cruise Line in the Caribbean. Bill loved to travel, all over the Caribbean Islands and Las Vegas. Never one to turn down a good card game, he was a member of the Garibaldi Club and was a well-known fixture there. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Linda, his daughters, Laureen Sanborn and her husband Michael of Amesbury; Michelle Hawley and her husband Stacey of Newburyport; his sister, Joanne M. Archambault of Haverhill; five grandchildren, Ethan Sanborn, Kaila Sanborn, Nick Hawley, Shay Hawley and Peyton Hawley; brothers in law, Kevin Buckley of Bradford, Larry Hevner and his wife Marion of Claremont, FL; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters M. Arline O’Brien and Patricia Buckley.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours Wednesday, August 14 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will be on Thursday morning in the funeral home at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Avenue, Haverhill.
