John Karampelas January 9, 1927 - November 6, 2019

Haverhill – John Karampelas, 92, born January 9, 1927, passed away at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill November 6, 2019 with his family by his side.

He was the son of the late Sam and Lillian (Prassos) Karampelas. John worked at his father’s Puritin Ice Cream Store in Lafayette Square while in school. He was a member of the Haverhill High School, Class of 1945. A month after graduating he was drafted into the United States Army, stationed at Fort Benning in GA during World War II. After his honorable discharge in December of 1946, he worked for Wonder Bread, delivering bread and stocking shelves for 35 years. Even after retirement he would go to Market Basket and straighten out the bread and was very well known there. John loved his Boston teams, especially the New England Patriots.

John is survived by his wife Anna (Hideriotis) Karampelas with whom he shared 62 years of marriage; his daughter Christine Gifford and her husband Jonathan of Plaistow, NH; his son Mark Karampelas; his sister, Helen Karampelas of Haverhill; his cherished grandsons, Jonathan Tannian and his wife Kristin of Farmingville, NY, Chad Tannian and his companion Jillian Thompson of No. Andover; great grandchildren, Brooklynn and Dominic Tannian; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Kay Karampelas.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a calling hour on Friday, November 8 from 10:30AM until 11:30AM at the St. Peter and St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in the church at 11:30AM. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, John Ward Avenue, Haverhill.
