Normande “Norma” (Soucy) Cote February 25, 1926 - February 2, 2021

Normande “Norma” (Soucy) Cote, born February 25, 1926 in Haverhill, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on February 1, 2021 at Cedar View Health Care Center in Methuen.

Norma was the daughter of the late Laurette (Roy) Soucy and Joseph G. Soucy.  She graduated from Haverhill High in 1944.  She later became an LPN and worked for many years in the ICU at the Hale Hospital and the Merrimack Valley Holy Family Hospital until her retirement in 1991.

Her cooking and baking delighted family and friends.  All unannounced guests were welcome at her table.  At one time in her life she had a bread-baking business.  Reading, crocheting and writing poetry were her passions.

Norma wrote over 60 poems which are included in an anthology she herself created.  Meeting at the Roma Restaurant monthly for many years with long-standing friends, she approached their aging years and maladies in her poetry with humor.  She expressed her deep faith and love of family in this poetry as well.  Over the years, her poems have appeared in three national anthologies and the Reader’s Digest.  She was the oldest person to submit a poem to the Northern Essex Community College’s Peace Poetry contest.

Norma was the youngest of three sisters; Lena Long who is pre-deceased and Eliette Willett of Lowell, Massachusetts.  Norma leaves seven children; Stephen Cote of ME, Jeffrey Cote of Haverhill, Hank and his wife Cheryl of Conway, NH; Pamela Stone and her husband Billy of Methuen, Russell Cote and his wife Kathie of Hampstead, NH; Roy Cote and his wife Holly of MT Pleasant, TN and Bradley Cote of Port Charlotte, FL.  She also leaves many nieces and nephews along with 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and two more to arrive this spring.  They were all the loves of her life.  Norma also leaves many dear friends that she considered as family.

A most heart-felt thank-you is being expressed to the neighbors of Fairmount Avenue and a special thanks to Chris and Jane who regularly visited her and enjoyed her warm smile, friendship and apple pie.
