DERRY, NH – Edward R. Penney, 79, of Derry, NH, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Edward was born on February 27, 1945, in Winchester, MA, to John S. and Emmie W. (Bishop) Penney. He was a graduate of Andover High School and spent many years as a dedicated ironworker with Local 7 in Boston. Throughout his career, Edward worked on several iconic Boston landmarks, including the John Hancock Building before eventually retiring from Regis Steel Erection.
A devoted member of his church community, Edward found strength in his faith and friendships. Edward was an avid outdoorsman, a skilled gardener, and a builder at heart. He took great pride in raising birds, working on his gardens and driving his tractor, while finding joy in the simple beauty of the land. A master storyteller,” Uncle Ed” or “Grampy” was known for entertaining the children at family gatherings with his colorful tall tales, always leaving his loved ones with smiles and cherished memories.
Edward is survived by his sons: Brian J. Penney and his wife Jennifer of Haverhill, MA; Eric Penney and his wife Rachel of Fairfield, CT; and Earl Penney and his wife Alicia of Glen Head, NY. He also leaves behind his sisters, Linda Berube Walker of Atkinson, NH, Melva Maccioli of Bennington, VT, and brother, George Penney of New Port Richey, FL. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Ethan and Evan Penney, Elyssa Delaney, Rose, Ripley, and Thomas Penney, Colin and Jack Penney, and his great-grandchild Lyra Ann Delaney.
