Richard H. Wentworth July 12, 1936 - January 19, 2019

Richard H. Wentworth Sr., 82, husband of Marilyn R. (Dinsmore) Wentworth and retired Captain of the Haverhill Fire Department passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 19 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a lengthy illness.                                                                                    Captain Wentworth was born in Haverhill, the son of the late Randolph H. and Dorothy B. (Holt) Wentworth. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served honorably from 1955 until 1959. Richard was the Crew Chief for the Thunderbirds. Upon his return from service, Captain Wentworth would become a Firefighter for the City of Haverhill and was rewarded Firefighter of the year on three different occasions, serving the people of Haverhill for thirty-two years until his retirement in 1995. His memberships included the Merrimac Lodge of Masons in Haverhill, the Carl Davis American Legion post in Plaistow and the Elks Lodge #2714 in Sebastian Florida. During his retirement he and his wife, Marilyn enjoyed many years in Florida before returning home to Haverhill. They enjoyed the Florida climate, golfing, socializing with family and friends of most of all cherishing time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn R. (Dinsmore) Wentworth, of Haverhill, sons; Robert Vencis and his wife Diana (Willey), Richard H. “Ricky” Wentworth, both of Haverhill, a daughter; Lisa A. Couture of Salem, NH; 7 grandchildren, Stacy Small, Amber Sullivan, Melanie Vencis, David Vencis III, Catie DiStefano, Trevor Couture, Ryan Wentworth; 6 great grandchildren, Evan Sullivan, Grady Stickney, Isla Sullivan, Sean Sullivan, Angelina DiStefano, Vincent DiStefano III; 2 brothers; Randolph H. Wentworth and Robert H. “Beanie” Wentworth, both of Florida, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons, Mark Vencis and David Vencis.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Sunday, January 27 from 2:00PM until 5:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will be Monday morning at 10:00AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, John Ward Avenue, Haverhill.
