Haverhill – Richard A. Slavit, 64, passed away July 6, 2017 in Haverhill.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late William and Evelyn M. (Brunell) Slavit. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1970. He then received a Liberal Arts Degree from the University of Lowell.   He was employed for many years in the real estate industry, working for Consoli Real Estate and helping families throughout the Merrimack Valley area. Richard was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan and enjoyed attending the games. He read and wrote poetry and loved music.  Richard was a professional drummer and vocalist who played in the band Amalgamated Anarchy. Richard loved nature and enjoyed spending time on Kenoza Lake and was an avid cyclist. Richard had a passion for astronomy and was a member of the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club.  Richard assisted his father, the late “Red” Slavit, the former Haverhill Harbormaster, in rescues on the river and worked on the family riverboat.   He was known for his dry humor and was fun to be around.  He was a caring and dedicated son to his parents and brother to his eight siblings.  Richard was also very close to his many nephews and nieces and a beloved friend to so many.  Richard had a soft spot in his heart for cats and owned and cared for them for over thirty five years.



Richard is survived by siblings Patricia M. Kvinlaug and her husband Hans of Bradford, Kathleen A. Smith of Dracut, Betty-Ann Slavit of Hampton, N.H., James K. Slavit and his wife Marie of Haverhill, Timothy Slavit of Groveland, Donna A. Slavit of Rye, NH, Diann M. Slavit-Baylis of Topsfield, and aunt, Elizabeth Villers of Haverhill.  Richard is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as Ashley Sullivan, and her daughter Shaelyn Clark,   He was predeceased by his brother William J. Slavit, Jr.
