HAVERHILL – David Rogers Wilbur, 96 of Haverhill passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024 after spending an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday with his children and grandchildren.

David was born on July 7, 1928 to the late Phillip and Gladys Wilbur.  He is predeceased by the love of his life Barbara Wilbur (Blaisdell) to whom he was married for 62 years before her passing in 2016. David was born and raised in Amesbury where he spent his childhood playing on the Merrimack River. He graduated from Amesbury High in 1946. David was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1951 where he was stationed at various bases in the US and Germany.

He attended Wentworth Institute before marrying his wife Barbara and moving to New Jersey where he worked for Bell Labs. After several years, they returned home and settled in Groveland where they lived for sixty years. David completed his engineering degree later in life at Fitchburg State. He worked as an Engineer for Raytheon Corporation for more than 30 years before retiring at the age of 63. In retirement, David enjoyed biking, sailing, and mountain climbing. He especially enjoyed playing golf and tennis with friends at Cedardale. David was also an avid gardener. David took many trips to sunny warm places with his wife Barbara and friends. More than anything David enjoyed spending time with family. There were many family gatherings after Barbara’s passing where he would tear up, offer a toast, and talk about how lucky he was and how happy Barbara would have been. David was loved and respected by his family and all who knew him. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Haverhill Crossings for the comfort and care that they offered him over the past year.

David is survived by his three children David J. Wilbur and his wife Mary Ann of Braintree, Mary Ellen Gleason and her husband Sean of Bradford and Stephen P. Wilbur and his wife Elizabeth of Hardeeville, SC. He was the loving grandfather to seven grandchildren Jessica, Courtney and Jocelyn Wilbur, Molly and Michael Gleason, Stephanie (Wilbur) Merrick and Brandon Wilbur.  David is predeceased by his brother Robert Wilbur and his sister Nancy Wiggin.
