Dorothy (Riley) Emilio December 31, 1927 - November 22, 2021

Dorothy (Riley) Emilio, 93, wife of the late Alfred B. Emilio, Sr., clicked her heels three times and traveled over the rainbow, on November 22, at Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill MA.

Born on New Year’s Eve 1927 to Dorothy Riley McCaffrey and Herbert Riley, “Dot” was raised by her loving grandparents Eva and Winham Wedge.

A lifelong resident of Haverhill MA, she attended Saint James and graduated in 1945.When she wasn’t home with her family, or collecting stamps, coins, and various presidential gag gifts, you could find her working at Allen Shoe Company or AT&T until her retirement in 1990.

Dorothy was infamous for her customized greeting cards and sent out 30 plus per year to her loved ones on their birthdays and anniversaries. Creating poems and cards was one of Dorothy’s favorite hobbies. They were much loved by everyone who received them, and they will be greatly missed. Dorothy never drove and spent most of her time walking to work, church, the polls to vote.. and to the hospital on the day she gave birth to her first child.

Gram made the best cinnamon toast, had an extraordinary collection of Nun figurines, enjoyed red wine, crossword puzzles, hosting yearly egg hunts and trick or treat.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her grandchildren Joel Steinman, Eric Steinman and Rebecca (Steinman) Flynn.Dorothy is survived by her 6 children, Ann Coyle and her husband Thomas of Salem, NH; Alfred Emilio Jr and his wife Mary of Haverhill; Patricia Dion and her husband Neil of Haverhill; Judith Steinman and her husband Earl of Haverhill; Maria Emilio of Salisbury; Jo-Ann Jean and her husband Guy of Haverhill; as well as her 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, brother, Raymond Riley of England, and brother-in-law Frank Emilio of Haverhill.

“A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.”  Goodbye Dorothy, we will miss you most of all.
