Dr. Peter M. Pandolfi, 79 July 9, 1942 - May 13, 2022

Georgetown-Dr. Peter M. Pandolfi, 79, husband of Barbara(Flannery) Pandolfi passed away May 13, 2022 following a cardiac event.

Born in Portland, Maine, Dr. Pandolfi was the son of the late Leo J. Pandolfi and Eloise (Carter) Pandolfi.  He spent his childhood in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Dr. Pandolfi graduated from Harvard College with a degree in Biology and earned a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University.  In addition to his many academic accomplishments, Dr. Pandolfi proudly served in the United States Navy’s Submarine Service during the Vietnam era.  He attained the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the USS Nautilus(SSN-571), the world’s first nuclear powered submarine.

For more than 30 years Dr. Pandolfi treated small animals in his veterinary practice, The Veterinary Hospital of West Peabody.  Once retired, Peter enjoyed numerous projects around their property in Georgetown.  Their faithful Golden Retriever, Maddie, was always right by his side.  Dr. Pandolfi loved figuring out how things worked and spent endless hours repairing cars, furnaces and other machines primarily for the challenge.  In contrast, Peter was a passionate gardener, who amassed a collection of hundreds of peonies, daylilies and numerous other perennials and shrubs.  Peter kept the household running with his creative cooking and organizational skills.  Dr. Pandolfi also loved researching and planning family trips throughout the eastern half of this country.  While Peter was a homebody, he took great pleasure in all the accomplishments of other family members.

In addition to his loving wife Barbara, Dr. Pandolfi is survived by his daughter Kimberley (Pandolfi) Flanagan and her husband Eugene, his grandson Owen Connor Flanagan and his niece, Jennifer Mauch of California.  In addition to his parents, Dr. Pandolfi was predeceased by his brother James.

Peter and I shared many exciting times on the 571, but one of the most memorable events was the trip to the island in Maine, lobster and clams and stories of the history of the island. Peter and I also had to be towed in from a sailing adventure when the rudder became detached. I think our Ivy backgrounds brought some high brow to the wardroom.
