Hans A. Kvinlaug March 10, 1938 - November 2, 2021

Bradford – Hans A. Kvinlaug, 83, husband of Patricia (Slavit) Kvinlaug of 52 years passed away November 2, 2021 after a short illness with his loving family by his side.

Born in Flekefjord, Norway, he was the son of the late Jorgen and Ruth (Birkeland) Kvinlaug. He was raised and educated through high school in Norway. Hans served his native country in the Merchant Marines. In the 1950’s he came to the United States and enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. After the Air Force he attended the University of Wisconsin and obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering. At that time he was employed at the former Bell Labs and lived in Haverhill for two years. Hans wanted to further his education and with his family returned to the University of Wisconsin and obtained his Doctorate and PHD. While in Wisconsin he became a U.S. citizen in 1973. He then returned to Haverhill and resided in Bradford with his family for 47 years. He was a talented carpenter and builder. He and his wife also owned and operated a family style seafood restaurant called the Harbormaster located in Rye, NH. With his family he spent many summers at the family home in Rye, NH. Every two years Hans would travel back to Norway to visit family. With his wife and children he also traveled all over the world. Over the years Hans received many awards for his inventions and innovations. Known as a gentle giant, a humble man, he was a kind and generous man who was always there for his family. Hans was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, lovingly known as Bestafar who loved his family and always put them first. From the moment they were born until the day he passed he was always there for them. Hans was a member of the Ham Radio Club, the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Sons of Norway. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife Patricia, he is survived by his children, Ann Marie Cruickshank and her husband Scott of Haverhill; David Kvinlaug of Rye, NH; sister, Ingebjorg and her husband Tore Beckman of Norway; brothers, Norman and Kjell Kvinlaug of Norway; two grandchildren, Emily and Hollie Cruickshank; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
