Helen T. (Hayes) Dempsey September 7, 1929 - October 1, 2021

Haverhill – Helen T. (Hayes) Dempsey, 92, wife of the late James C. “Chickie” Dempsey, with whom she was married for 62 years, passed away October 1, 2021 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Katherine (Neagley)  ) Hayes. Raised in Haverhill, she was a graduate of St. James High School, Class of 1947 and St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Lowell. Helen was the first in her family to attend college and was proud of her achievement. She was a Registered Nurse at the former Hale Hospital in Haverhill for many years. Helen was a wonderful cook who loved to host her family and friends for holidays. She looked forward to weekly Sunday dinners where her family would gather at her home. A woman of strong faith, she always had her Rosary beads with her and was faithful reciting her Rosary every day. Helen loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots and rarely missed watching the games. She also enjoyed her Bingo nights with friends. She was very involved in her son Brian’s campaigns for State Representative, serving as treasurer. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her family was her life and the center of everything. She attended all of their events and enjoyed babysitting whenever she could. Helen will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.

Helen is survived by her children, James P. Dempsey and his wife Kathleen of Dunnellon, FL; Kevin G. Dempsey of Haverhill; Brian S. Dempsey and his wife Julie of Haverhill; her beloved grandchildren, Michael and his wife Dena, Jennifer, Meghan, Kevin, James, Jacob, Ryan and his wife Taylor, Tyler and Brittany Dempsey; great grandchildren, Johanna, Brenden, Carson and Ava Dempsey; her sister in law, Mickey Hayes; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her infant daughter Karen Dempsey, her son Michael Dempsey and her siblings, Dennis, Thomas, Austin, Frank, Edward, Joseph and Richard Hayes and Mary Pillsbury and Lillian Levasseur.
