James “Jim” R. Young, 74 June 25, 1948 - July 29, 2022

West Newbury – James “Jim” R. Young, age 74, husband of Virginia “Ginie” R. (Bedrick) Young, passed away on Friday, July 29th, 2022 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport after a period of failing health.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late James R. and Margaret (Raymond) Young. He was a graduate of Holy Cross Catholic High School in Boston, class of 1966, and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from UMass Lowell in 1991. After a brief employment with General Dynamics, Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He went on to work for M/A-Com and Cobham Electronic Defense Systems in 1972 until he suffered from a stroke in 2009.

Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed cross country skiing. He would often be found fishing in his green canoe. Jim was a history buff and an avid reader. In 2009 he suffered serious complications from a hemorrhagic stroke but he always persevered with a smile and a bad dad-joke. A devoted husband and father, he will be remembered for his strength and love for his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his loving wife, Ginie, he is survived by his children, Kristen M. Young and Kim R. Young, both of West Newbury; brother Gerald Young and his wife MaryLou of Charlotte, NC; sisters Margaret (Young) Connolly and her husband Frank of Jackson, NH and Judith Young of Bangor, ME, and special cousin Margie Killeen of Topsfield, MA; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
