HAVERHILL – Joseph Thomas “Tom” Comeau, 84, a life-long resident of Haverhill, MA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 10th, 2025. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Jacquelyn (Leveille) Comeau.
Tom was born on December 18th 1940, to the late J. Alphie Comeau and M.Elizabeth (Dugas) Comeau. He attended Haverhill Trade School and was employed in the shoe city factories of Haverhill as a pattern maker. His main employer in this field was Gallagher and David for many years. Most recently he worked for the Lowell Five Bank as a mail courier.
He was a friendly man who was very active and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was also recognized as “Mr. C” or “Pep” by many. He was an avid bowler for many years at St. Joseph’s Bowling Alley and was a member of the 400 club. Tom was a life-long 45’s card player and up until his passing he was still playing at the Crescent Yacht Club and the Sons of Italy. Tom was known to frequent McDonald’s with his buddies in the morning for coffee where he never turned down a senior discount. He was known for his incredible sense of humor and always managed to make people laugh. Tom was a hard-working man and loved his family dearly. He would do anything for them even if it meant going to Market Basket four times a day. He was also close to his Nova Scotian roots, as that is where his parents were born. He made numerous trips to visit his relatives in Nova Scotia and most recently visited them this past summer of 2024.
Because he did not leave instructions upon his departure, his family is left to ponder if we are stacking the dishwasher correctly, if we are using the proper trash/recycling bins, and who is going to take over the coin purse. He leaves big shoes to fill. He and his “pepisms” will be sorely missed by his family.
Besides his wife, Jacquelyn, he is survived by his daughters Lisa (Comeau) Sanborn and her husband Ed Sanborn of Palm Harbor, Florida, Lori Comeau of Haverhill, and Julie (Comeau) Leathers of Haverhill, his grandchildren; Amanda (Evans) Durgin, her husband Harold, Kyle Evans, his wife Jenelle (LeBlanc), Brian Houle, Carlene Houle, and Jake Manfrates all of Haverhill. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Landon Evans, Maverick Evans, Avery Durgin, and Tyler Durgin, all of Haverhill. He also leaves his brother David Comeau of Ipswich and pre-deceased by his older sister Isabelle (Bella Lee) Comeau. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins in Nova Scotia.
Tom’s desire was that there would be no services. In lieu of visitation, please feel free to share your favorite memories here or you can send cards to his family at 47 West Rochambault St. Haverhill, Ma. 01832 or email memcom1@aol.com. Arrangements are by the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home 486 Main St. Haverhill. Please visit Comeau Funeral Home on Facebook or www.comeaufuneral.com
