No. Andover – Joseph Vavra, Jr. 78, husband of the late Norene S. (Schmidt) Vavra, passed away August 3, 2021 at his home.

Born in Chicago, he was the son of the late Joseph Vavra, Sr. and Beulah (Knight) Vavra. He was raised in Chicago and attended Chicago Public Schools. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 and served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1967. Joseph lived in the Chicago area until moving to No. Andover in 1985 for his job with Lucent Technologies. He worked for Lucent for many years as a materials handler. Joseph loved wrestling and watched WWE as much as possible. He also enjoyed fishing in the local rivers, ponds and lakes and playing cards, especially poker. Family was important to him and he loved spending time with them. Joseph loved his cat “Whitey” and enjoyed spoiling him rotten. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph A. Vavra, III of Oak Lawn, IL; Debbie Stillwell and her husband Perry of Oak Lawn, IL; Linda Vavra of Haverhill; Julie Scott of Phoenix, AZ and Kathleen DeJesus and her husband Edward of Methuen; sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 12 in Corpus Christi Church at Holy Rosary Church, 28 Union Street, Lawrence at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hilldale Avenue, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
