HAVERHILL – Mary Ellen (Marcus) Sweeney, 70, of Haverhill passed away at Boston Medical Center on February 24, 2025.
Mary was born in Ipswich on April 16, 21954 to William D. and Ellen E. (Murray) Marcus. She was educated in Hamilton County, Tennessee and later went on to study here in Haverhill at Northern Essex Community College receiving her Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. Mary was always happy to be with the people she loved. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and had a lust for life. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
She is survived by her sons David Sweeney and Debbie Cassidy of Salisbury, John Sweeney and his partner Glenda Eadens of Indiana; her daughters Stephanie Woodsum and her husband Christopher of Newton, NH, Serena Eaton and her husband Carl of Haverhill; daughter in law Christina Black of Sanford, ME and daughter-in-law Tammy (Butler) Sweeney of Indiana; and her two adopted sons Jamal and Najee Lambert of Haverhill. She also leaves behind grandchildren Hunter D, Sweeney, Alexander T. Sweeney, Hailey Woodsum, Kyle Woodsum, Sapphire and Christopher Nolan, Paige Sweeney and Jonathan Brown, Michael and Emily Butler, Zachary Dion, Carl Eaton III, Joseph Eaton and Lisa Morganella; great grandchildren Emery Nolan, Alixandria Nolan, Cora Morganella, Aiden Royer, and Madison Roman; and great-great grandchildren Aaria Roman-Boyd and Athena Roman-Boyd; as well as several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband William Sweeney.
