HAVERHILL – Thomas C. Lissey, 59, partner of Scott W. Casey, of the Bradford section of Haverhill, MA, passed away on Friday, December 27 at the Aspen Hill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Mr. Lissey was born in New Haven, CT (June 29, 1965), son of the late Charles and Edith (D’Antona) Lissey. He attended St. Louis Grammar School was a Graduate of Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT, class of 1983. He continued his education receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Wesleyan University in 1987. Thom, a gifted musician, served as music director in several congregations in the Boston and North Shore areas, including positions at UUC churches in Medford, Wakefield Winchester, as well as UCC Andover, and Shalom Congregation in Chelmsford..
He was staff accompanist at the Boston Conservatory, and a rehearsal and performance accompanist for numerous community choruses and music programs including
Charlestown Chorale, Institute for Advanced Theater Training (American Repertory Theater), Longy School of Music, and Suzuki School of Newtown.
Thom was also music director for many community theater programs. In 2004, he won the Award for Best Musical Direction from the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theaters for his work on “Ragtime” at the Footlight Club of Jamaica Plain.
He also received directing awards for Guys and Dolls (Newton) and Charlie Brown (Belmont). Other numerous credits include “Evita’, “Tommy”, “Cabaret”, “The Full Monty”, and “Pippin”.
Thom and his partner Scott enjoyed traveling extensively in the US and throughout Europe, frequently France and Italy. Eventually Italy won.
A devoted son, partner, brother and uncle, Mr. Lissey is survived by his partner of twenty-five years, Scott W. Casey, of Bradford, his sister Janet R. Hutchins of Hamden, CT, and his brother C.J. Lisi and his partner Melodie Chapman of Portsmouth, NH. He also leaves behind his nephews Jeremy Hutchins, Jeffrey Hutchins, and Carl Moore (Sarah), as well as two great nieces, Madeline and Isabel. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia Moore.
