Richard N. Mack

Haverhill – Richard N. Mack, 77, husband of Bonita “Bonnie” F. (Chaffee) Mack, passed away September 18, 2019 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Donald M. and Augusta M. (Davis) Mack. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1959. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country honorably for five years. Richard was employed as a tanner at Hamel Leather in Haverhill and was a well- known bartender for many years at Smittie’s Tavern in Haverhill. He enjoyed playing pool, watching crime television shows, cooking and his cats. Richard will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his loving wife Bonnie of over 53 years, Richard is survived by his siblings, Eva M. Saulnier and David A. Mauro of Haverhill; Michael F. Mack of Haverhill; Joseph E. Mack and his wife Gail of Haverhill; Thomas S. Mack of Haverhill; sister in law, Margaret Mack; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a celebration of his life on September 29 at 2:00PM at Smittie’s Tavern, 124 Essex Street, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the Kevin B.     He was a buddy. Always treated me and my friends as if we were family. Always yelled, “Pailzy”” as soon as I would enter an establishment. He did that for a lot of people. He made the world a brighter place and that is how I will remember him. To him

    I was very sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. He was a terrific guy who will be missed by all who knew him. He was full of fun, and always made you laugh with one of his corny jokes. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

    Sad to here of Dicky’s passing. He was a friend of my dad’s Donald “Sarge” Dion. We had some great laughs at Smittys. He was a sweetheart. My love to his family and friends. Jeannie Dion Comei.
