Joseph M. Calnan

Haverhill – Joseph M. Calnan, 61, passed away January 31, 2020 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Malden, he was the son of the late Joseph and June L. (Kilgore) Calnan. He was raised and educated in Haverhill and was a graduate of Whittier Tech High School, Class of 1977. Joe owned Calnan Home Improvement and with his partner, Peter Dizoglio of Hampton, NH, C.D. Realty, he rehabbed many properties throughout the Merrimack Valley. In 1989, he founded the original Haverhill Boxing Club and was co-founder in 2013 of Haverhill Inner City Boxing Club and Youth Development. He would help anyone in need and was known for his mentoring and had a great love for all the children of Haverhill, always striving to point them in the right direction and guide them to make the right choices. There is a saying, “If he knew you, he loved you”, and that epitomized Joe. He loved the game of football and enjoyed playing softball for many years. Joe loved music, especially classic rock and enjoyed playing his guitar. Known for his great sense of humor, he was a loving and awesome father who was always there for his children.

Joe is survived by his children, Jennifer Renee Calnan, Joseph A. Calnan and Nickolas W. Calnan and his partner Miranda Martin, all of Haverhill; his former wife and caregiver, Sherry (Dovey) Calnan;  his step children, Christine Dovey, Katelyn and Amanda Zahler; his brothers, William Calnan, Robert Calnan and his wife Yaling, Todd Calnan and his partner Julie Chesnutt, all of Haverhill; his sister, Theresa A. Calnan of Eureka, MT; three grandchildren, Ava Quintal, Kaiden Santiago and Declan Callaway; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, February 8 from 2:00PM until 5:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
