Stephen C. DeVeau

Haverhill – Stephen C. DeVeau, 66, passed away August 22, 2021 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Conrad C. and Catherine L. (Germinara) DeVeau. Raised in Haverhill, he attended the Tilton School and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1972. Stephen worked in the Essex County Sheriff’s Department and obtained the rank of Captain. He loved the game of baseball and was an umpire for many years. He traveled to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown New York where he umpired many tournaments, as well as local games in the Merrimac Valley area. Stephen loved the beach, Rye Beach, Wells Beach and traveling to Florida for their beaches. He enjoyed a friendly game of 45’s, was known for his great culinary skills and loved to go out to eat. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his beloved Pug, Mia.

Stephen is survived by his children, Katie Hyser and her husband Matthew of Orlando, FL; Derek DeVeau and his wife Natalie of Stephenson, VA; his partner of seven years, Lori J. Brazee of Haverhill; his brother David DeVeau of New Braunfels, TX; his sister Deborah F. DeVeau of Stratham, NH; seven grandchildren, Finn,William, Jack and Max Hyser and Nicholas, Grant and Noelle DeVeau; and many extended family and friends.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 26 from 4:00PM until 6:30PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 6:30PM. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, No. Broadway, Haverhill on Friday morning at 11:00AM.     I am very sad to hear of Steve’s passing, sending wishes of peace to his family. We met at Cooperstown umpiring a few years ago and I always looked forward to spending time with him every summer since! I am blessed to know Steve as a special friend and will sincerely miss him.

    Steve’s passion for baseball dated all the way back to our playing days in St. Joseph’s Little League in the mid-1960s. Rest in peace, friend.

    Hello. I just learned of Steve’s death. I am so,so sorry. I was away and definitely would have been there. I never realized we shared the same birthday. I remember him well from the Hale …I was a nurse there. Please accept my belated condolences and if there are any remembrance cards I would love to have one. What a wonderful picture of him.
