HAVERHILL – Chester G. Smith, 78, of Haverhill passed away on June 20, 2025 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston.
Chester was born in Lebanon, NH to Gordon and Evelyn (Hammond) Smith on June 1, 1947 and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1965. He was employed for many years as a truck driver, hauling natural gas for TransGas and driving for GLYSS; he also operated a triaxle dump truck on the Big Dig, and worked as an automotive mechanic at Midas over the years. Chester enjoyed all sports, especially golf, gardening and working in the yard, fixing people’s cars, cooking, fishing, and doing crossword puzzles. He liked helping others and had the biggest heart – he loved his family and his home dearly.
Chester is survived by his wife Cheryl Smith of Haverhill, and his sons Gregg Smith and his wife Nicole Dolfe, and Shaun Smith and his wife Emily. He also leaves behind his brother Lyle Smith and his wife Carol of Wenham and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Peterann Rydell and his brother Lee Smith, Sr.
