Armida M. Hilario, 95, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025 at her home surrounded by family in Haverhill.
Armida was born in the Dominican Republic on March 27, 1930; she was the daughter of Maria Ramona Estrella Reyes and Antonio De La Cruz Mendoza. Armida worked for 13 years in the Dominican Republic as an Elementary school teacher, and then for 25 years in the Merrimack Valley from textiles in the Lawrence Mills to telecommunications in Western Electric & At &T, now Lucent Technologies. She was a founding member of the Iglesia Metodista Libre and also the Iglesia Evangelica Metodista Primitiva churches in Lawrence and was a member of the Iglesia de Nazareno Church in Kissimmee, FL; and she enjoyed volunteering teaching literacy and tutoring locally, and organizing holiday events at church, such as the yearly Christmas pageant. She also participated in many fundraising events both at church and for breast cancer awareness, and was involved with visiting many cancer patients locally.
Armida is survived by her loving daughters Marisol, Aixa, and Sandra; stepchildren Miriam, Damaris, Samuel, Priscilla, and Omar; and her 16 cherished grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jesus Maria Hilario; her parents; and eleven siblings.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, September 16 from 4PM until 7PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
