Mary A. (DeSando) Jacques, 93, passed away at the Stevens-Bennett Nursing Home in Haverhill, on August 8, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.Mary was born on November 20, 1917 in Haverhill, to Nicola and Mary (Cortese) DeSando. She attended local Bradford schools and graduated form Haverhill High School in 1935. She married her high school sweetheart, Roland Jacques in 1939 and they were married for 57 years.Mary worked in the offices of the shoe factories of Haverhill and often modeled sample shoes manufactured in Haverhill and was sent all over the world. In later years she worked in the business office of Bradford Junior College.After retirement, she and her husband spent many years in Florida. Mary Returned to the Haverhill area after her husband passed away, to be closer to her family. She will be remembered for her skills in cooking and baking, her love for reading, and a fondness for butterflies. Mary will be missed by all who knew and loved her.The widow of Roland R. Jacques who died in 1995, she leaves a daughter, Carole McAdam and her husband Larry, son, Roland Jacques and his wife, Alana (Lynch) of Haverhill, five grandchildren, Timothy McAdam and his wife, Wendy of Portola Valley, California, Amy McAdam and her partner, Bridgett Hart of Haverhill, Andrea Mason and her husband, Jasper of Houston, Texas, Eric Jacques of Houston Texas, and Andrew McAdam and his wife, Tracy of Fairfield, CT, five great-grandchildren, Carly, Harry, and Sarah McAdam of Portola Valley, California, Logan McAdam Hart of Haverhill, and Genevive McAdam of Fairfield, CT, her brother, Robert DeSando and his wife Catherine of Haverhill, along with many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by a sister, Eileen, two brothers, Raymond and Domenic (Mickey) and a nephew, Jeffrey.
Mary’s family wishes to extend their appreciation to the Stevens-Bennett Home and Merrimack Valley Hospice for the help and comfort given to their mother.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Sunday, from 2 until 5 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in St. John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Ave. Haverhill. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill St. Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made to the Activities Fund at Stevens-Bennett Home, 337 Main St. Haverhill, MA 01830.
