Groveland – Barbara A. (Colby) Band, 81, passed away November 20, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Norwood, MA she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Pauline M.(Crooker) Colby.Raised in Norwood, MA and Pittsfield NH, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, Class of 1953. She then attended the nursing program at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital where she became a Licensed Registered Nurse. In October 1955 she married the love of her life, Carl A. Band, with whom she shared 61 wonderful years of marriage.After taking time off to raise her family, Barbara was employed at the former Hale Hospital, Anna Jaques Hospital and the Home Health Visiting Nurse Association, becoming a widely respected member of the health care providers community.She loved spending time at Loon Pond in Gilmanton, NH. Together with her husband and children she lived throughout the northeast before settling in West Newbury, then Groveland. She was a member of the Groveland Congregational Church, serving on the music committee for many years. Barbara loved music. This was never more apparent than when she was playing the piano or attending a Barnstormers concert with her husband Carl. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Barbara especially loved doting on her cherished grandchildren.In addition to her loving husband Carl, she is survived by her children, David S. Band and his wife Diane of Hillsborough, NC Laurie J. Collins and her husband John J., Jr. of Groveland Geoffrey A. Band and his wife Nancy of Londonderry, NH her brother Kenneth Colby and his wife Dorothy of Newburyport her grandchildren, Brian Band, Michael Band, Stephen Collins, Geoffrey Band, Jason Band, Brenda Band her great grandchildren, Carl, Liliana and Barrett several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her brother Bruce C. Colby.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services on Friday, November 25 at 11:00AM in the Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King Street,Groveland. Burial will be private.
