Haverhill – Antonio Matias, 94, husband of Fior Maria Matias, passed away on Friday, October 9th at Holy Family Hospital surrounded by his loving family.Born in the Dominican Republic he was the son of the late Celedonio and Mercedes (Rosario) Matias. He was raised and educated in Sabana Grande de Hostos, Dominican Republic. Antonio was a business man for many years as well as serving as Sherriff for Sabana Grande de Hostos. He came to the United States in 1993 and settled in Haverhill. He liked to dance and loved home cooked food. Most important to him was spending time with his family.In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Ismael Matias and his wife Maria of Haverhill Parfino Matias and his wife Arelis of Haverhill Victor Matias and his wife Teresa of Santo Domingo Santiago Matias and his wife Milagros of Lawrence Silfrido Matias Jose Matias and his wife Juana of Haverhill Nereida Brito and her husband Juan of Orlando, FL Rosie Matias and Cristina Matias, both of Dominican Republic his sisters, Carmelita of Sabana Grande de Hostos Anna Fortuna or Puerto Rico and Lidia Matias of Santo Domingo forty six grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son Arsenio Matias, his daughter Eunicis Matias and his sister Maria Matias.Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Monday October 12th from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday morning at 9:00AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 185 Winter Street, Haverhill.
