Haverhill, MA – Donald J. Bernstein, 79, of York, Maine, and Venice, Florida, passed away December 18, 2014 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, MA surrounded by his loving family, after a brief period of declining health.He leaves his wife of twenty-four years, Michele (Cormier) Bernstein, five children Donna Way and her husband, Chris, of Kittery, ME, Robert Bernstein and his wife, Lynn, of Tampa, FL, Susan Fyfe and her husband, Ron of Londonderry, NH, James Bernstein, of Cape Neddick, ME, and Joseph Bernstein, of Newfields, NH, four grandchildren, Robert Bernstein, Daniel Bernstein, Caitlin Way and Brady Bernstein, two great grandchildren, Shelby Bernstein and Elizabeth Bernstein. He also leaves two sisters Marjorie Bennett and her husband, Dave and Theresa and Fred Smith, all of New Jersey.Mr. Bernstein was employed by the Chubb Insurance Company for over twenty-four years, retiring in 1994. He served the company as the New England Senior Vice President and retired as the Chief Operations Officer. He was the best at what he did and will be dearly missed. Don had a great zest for life that was contagious he enjoyed his family, his friends, boating and fishing.The family of Mr. Bernstein extends their deepest gratitude to the amazing staff at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave. Haverhill, MA 01830. A private celebration of life will be held for Mr. Bernstein in the New Year.
