Edward Comeau

Phoenix, AZ – Edward Joseph “EJ” Comeau, 91, a resident of Phoenix, AZ since 1979 and formerly of Haverhill, husband of the late Charlene (Mestugrates) Comeau, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at his home.Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Joseph Eddie Comeau and Mary Monique (Saulnier) Comeau. He attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School and as other members of the “Greatest Generation” enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after graduation from High School. He proudly served from July of 1942 in the Pacific Asian Theatre on PC boat 553 and PC 1228 until being honorably discharged in January of 1946 as a Radioman First Class.His war experiences ignited a lifelong passion for electronics, learning, and travel. Upon his return from active duty he attended electronic school in Boston. He then worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he started as an electronic technician and ended as to General Foreman of Shop 67 some 33 years later. An avid ham radio operator he held the call sign of W1JWA until his death. He also owned and operated Comeau’s Television Service and Repair at the corner of 6th Avenue and Cedar Street in the heart of the Acre. He served as Past Commander of the Haverhill AMVETS. He was a founding member and historian for the PCSA (Patrol Craft Sailor’s Association).In 1979 he and Charlene relocated to Phoenix AZ for her health, where he adopted the nickname “EJ”. He worked at several Television Repair establishments in Scottsdale and Phoenix and only retired in 2008 at the age of 85, to care for Charlene who had developed terminal lung cancer. EJ was known for his distinct sense of humor, his work ethic, strong faith, and love of genealogy and photography.He is survived by his daughter, Melinda M. Comeau of Ventura, CA, and several nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, Regina Bailey Joseph D. “Dinny” Comeau Jean J. Comeau and Gustave L. Comeau.Friends and family are respectfully invited to calling hours on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home 486 Main St. Haverhill. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 8 at 12:00 Noon at All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave. Haverhill. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill St. Haverhill.
