HAVERHILL – Haverhill said goodbye to Ernest H. Fountaine, a devoted father and grandfather, who passed away peacefully at age 69 on September 19, 2025, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Ernest was a Haverhill native, born on February 3, 1956, to Ernest H. and Lois (Woodbury) Fountaine. He was a proud graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1974, and later earned his associate’s degree from NECCO. Ernest had a true passion for life’s treasures; he loved collecting antiques and first edition books, and he was always eager to dive into a good read. A dedicated Eagle Scout in his youth, he carried that sense of adventure and love for nature throughout his life, often found tending to his beautiful flower garden.
Ernest is survived by his wife and children: Nancy (Klinch) Fountaine his son Craig H. Fountaine and his wife Dacey of Amesbury, and his daughter Katherine J. Fountaine of Haverhill. He was also a cherished brother to Jean Hill and her husband Randal of Haverhill, and Diane Fountaine of Goffstown, NH. His spirit will live on through his two grandchildren, Vivian Burns and Quinn Burns, who brought so much joy to his life. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Ernest was preceded in death by his brother Richard M. Fountaine.
