George Edward Riley, 82, of Haverhill, died peaceful, with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill, after a long illness.Born in Boston, MA on February 2, 1929, he was the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. George L. and Margaret “Donnelly” Riley. He was educated in local Boston schools, graduating from the Boston Technical High School, the Class of 1946. George continued his education later in life, receiving an Associates Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Lowell Technical College in 1960 and a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Technology from North Eastern University in 1965. A World War II Veteran, George proudly served as a “Communication Specialist” in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948.On September 6, 1952, George would marry the love of his life, Ms. Barbara K. Brien, who would remain by his side, living and raising their family in Haverhill, for the next 59 years.George worked as an Electrical Engineer for the majority of his working career, working for several prominent local New England Companies including, R. A. Sullivan Co., R. L. Borsetti Co., Western Electric, A. T. & T., and Lucent Technologies, where he would work until his retirement in 1989.A parishioner of All Saints Parish, George in his spare time, enjoyed Bowling and playing the guitar for his friends and family. He will be sadly missed by his family but his memory and loving legacy will live within the hearts forever.George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mrs. Barbara K. “Brien” Riley, four sons, James E. Riley and Deborah Deem of Camarillo, CA., Thomas J. and his wife, Deborah A. (Dow) of Bradford, MA., Robert K. and his wife Susan (Schmidt) of Tuscon, AZ., and William B. and his wife Deneen (Porazzo) of Woburn, MA., four grandchildren, Brad, Heather, Carl, and Ian Riley, two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Alex Riley, and two nieces.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday, January 6, from 4 until 7PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 9:00 AM from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in All Saints Church, Bellevue Ave. Haverhill. Burial will be private.
