Haverhill – George E. Tarr, 70, of Haverhill passed away peacefully on May 30th at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after being stricken ill suddenly at his home four weeks ago. Born in Danvers he was the son of the late Osmond R. and Lois M. (Vance) Tarr. Raised in Danvers he attended Danvers Public Schools and was a graduate Danvers High School, Class of 1962. A Vietnam veteran George proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. Mr. Tarr was employed as a machinist for Technical Manufacturing in Peabody and later Valley Manufacturing in Groveland for many years until his retirement in 2002. An avid sportsman George enjoyed playing softball in local leagues. He played in the Twilight League and umpired many softball and basketball games. As his children were growing he was very active and coached in Little League baseball. He was an active member of the Lifeline Baptist Church in Haverhill. George was the Chaplain of the American Legion Post 248 in Groveland.A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, George leaves his beloved wife of 45 years, Pamela L. (Spurr) Tarr, his three sons, Kevin G. and his wife Kari Tarr of Davenport, FL Jason P. and his wife Jacqui Tarr of Haverhill and Christopher S. and his wife LisaTarr of Haverhill six cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Brittney, Cameron, Chloe, Carson and Averi Tarr one brother, Richard P. Tarr and his wife Janet of Webster, MA, Sisters, Mary E. Parker of Haverhill, Lois Parker of Exeter, NH Marylin Griffin of Haverhill, Virginia Knowlton,of No. Andover and Marion Michaud of Olde Town, ME. He was predeceased by siblings Alberta Lindsey, Janet Piowtroski, Helen Tarr, Osmond Tarr and Billy Tarr.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Tuesday from 4pm until 7pm at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral Services for Mr. Tarr will be held on Wednesday morning at 10am in the funeral home.
