Big enough to serve you, small enough to know you.

Jacques Guiguizian

Haverhill – Jacques Guiguizian, 88, husband of Carolyn (Eaton) Guiguizian, passed away December 22, 2021 at Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill.

Born in Valence, France, he was the son of the late Hagop and Marguerite (Fantazian) Guiguizian. Growing up in France during World War Two, his family survived the bombing of their house. He left war devastated France to join his uncle and grandmother in the USA, arriving in New York City on December 7, 1950. He was amazed at all the brilliant lights and considered December 7 his second birthday. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a cartographer, in the Wolfhound Unit. Jacques attended the Feener School of Technology. He began his career as a draftsman and retired as a mechanical engineering consultant. Among the many engineering projects he was involved in, the Hubble telescope was the most memorable. He was granted several patents as a result of his work over the years.

Jacques was a witty and true renaissance man. He loved working with his fruit bushes, vines and trees. He was able to light up a room and make everyone feel like a friend no matter how long they were acquainted. He loved cooking for family and friends, bringing some traditional Armenian and French foods to the table. He always loved learning new skills and working with his hands. He was a talented craftsman and artist, able to work with any medium, pencil, art brush, or hammer. The paintings he created provide a cherished memory of him. A lifelong learner, he would spend a lot of his free time turning his ideas into realities. He loved designing and working on home renovations and redid multiple homes over the years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he cherished his time with his family.

In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is survived by his children, Paul Guiguizian, Jacquelyn Wyman of Gilbert, AZ, Jean Vincent and her husband Maurice Vincent of N. Hampton, NH; grandchildren, Ariel Preedom, Jeffrey Guiguizian, Rachel and Philip Wyman, Nathan, Daniel and Thomas Vincent; great granddaughters Avery and Olivia Vincent; a brother Georges Guiguizian in France; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Alice Magnavacca, Henriette Faure and Maria Louise LeBrat.

A celebration of Jacques life will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are by the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Please visit Comeau Funeral Home on Facebook or www.comeaufuneral.com

I will miss you very much, Uncle Carl. You always had a smile and a funny but gentle quip. I loved the twinkle in your eyes when you laughed, which was often. When you talked to someone you looked them directly in the eyes, and listened in a way that made them feel like they were the only one in the world you were thinking about. You loved your family – both your own and your extended family – and we could all tell and felt that love. You were a pleasure to talk to, and the conversation never faltered. I pray you are holding Aunt Barb’s hand once again, and as Fred said at your memorial service, that you’re at the big Loon Pond in heaven, waiting for us. I for one can’t wait to see you again! Rest in peace.
