John Azevedo

Methuen- John Azevedo 83 of Methuen passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday January 16, 2014, at Hannah Duston Healthcare in Haverhill. He was the husband of Joan S. (Correia) Azevedo and was the son of the late, Thitonio and Mary (Sousa) Azevedo. John was a US Army Veteran who served his country in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Boston Cooking School and Jacqueline School of Design, which began his career as a long time pastry chef. He started his baking at Sun Ray Bakery in Methuen, Henry’s Superette in Beverly and Joseph’s Bakery in Haverhill. He also had a passion for painting and wallpapering which he did after retiring. He enjoyed golfing, 45’s, racquetball and tennis. He had an infectious laugh that would make everyone else laugh. His most cherished moments was spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his loving wife Joan Azevedo of 59 years of marriage. His two daughters Cynthia Eddy and her husband Leonard of Lawrence, Cheryl Conway and her companion Robert Gibbs of Salem N.H. , and his son John Azevedo Jr. and his wife Karen of Methuen. Two sisters Aldina Pacheco of Wolfboro, NH and Kathleen Hibbard of Florida. He was predeceased by his brother Edwin Azevedo. He has six grandchildren Kristen Welch, Jennifer Jackson, Cara Cameron, Ashley Witts, Leonard Eddy Jr. and Ryan Conway. His six great grandchildren Rachel Eddy, Brendan Eddy, Paige Eddy, Jack Welch, Stella Jackson and Maggie Joan Welch.Johns family would like to thank all the staff at Lawrence General Hospital and the Hannah Duston Healthcare for all their devoted care.At the request of the family there will be no calling hours, all services will be private.
