J. Robert G. Pigeon, 90, of Haverhill, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Sutton Hill Nursing Center in North Andover after a period of declining health.Born Joseph Robert Gill Pigeon, on April 6, 1921, in Amesbury, he was the son of the late, Eugene and Albertine (Sevigny) Pigeon. Raised and educated in Amesbury, he was a Graduate of Amesbury High School.A Veteran of WWII, Mr. Pigeon proudly served in the 71st Seabees Battalion of the U.S. Navy. His unit was engaged in the Guadalcanal, Bougainville (Solomon Islands), and Admiralties Islands, receiving the Naval Unit Commendation.A self employed licensed Master Electrician since 1948, Bob would later establish the Robert Pigeon Electric Co. on White Street, where he would spend his career until his retirement. Over the years, as a past member of the Whittier Vocational Tech Electrical Department Advisory Board, Bob trained many students through the co-op program as apprentice electricians.A beach enthusiast, Bob loved spending time at Rye Beach and Hampton Beach, where you would often times find him enjoying fishing as well. He loved to play cards, and was an avid bowler, playing in several different local leagues. A member of the AMVET’s and a life long parishioner of St. James Church, Bob will be sadly missed by his family and friends but his loving memory will remain with them forever.Bob is survived by his wife, Gertrude M (Roy) Pigeon whom he shared over 60 years of marriage with, one son, Robert A. Pigeon and his wife Ann-Marie of Haverhill, one daughter, Ann M Cox and her partner Raymond Gagner of Kittery, ME., a sister, Adrienne Troian and her husband Alfred of Haverhill, seven grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Denise, Adam and his wife Danielle, James and his wife Lisa, and Alex Pigeon, and Jonathan, Matthew and his wife Tiffany and Timothy Cox, four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Zoe, and Noah Pigeon, and Brendon Cox. He was predeceased by his brother Paul Pigeon and his two sisters, Rita Goodwin and Georgette Vic.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Wednesday, from 5 until 8 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Primrose St. Haverhill. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Capital Improvement Fund, 6 Cottage St. Haverhill, MA 01830.
