Marion Whalen

Marion E. (Rogers) Whalen, 89, of Newburyport, formerly of Haverhill and West Newbury, died Friday, March 23, at the Kindred Nursing Center in Newburyport after a period of declining health.Born and raised in West Newbury, she was the daughter of the late, Charles S. and Nina (Rowell) Rogers. She attended West Newbury public school and Newburyport High School.Marion was employed as an assembler in production for the Hytron Company, in Haverhill, Raytheon in Andover and Western Electric in North Andover.She, along with her late husband John, raised and educated their family in Haverhill and upon his passing she relocated to Newburyport some twenty-five years ago. She enjoyed crafting, knitting and sewing. She also enjoyed a friendly card game, bingo, and going out to eat. She loved tending her beautiful flower garden and feeding and watching the birds. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.The widow of John P. Whalen, who died in 1984, she leaves her beloved children and their families, her son John T. “Jack” Whalen and his wife Mary, of Rockville, MD, their daughter Susan Whalen, their daughter Deborah Whalen and her partner Stephanie, their son Michael Whalen and his children, Megan, Ryan, and Lindsey her daughter Kathleen Palen, of Salisbury, her son Eric Palen and Jody Wick and their children Lucas and Brooke Palen, her daughter Robin Powell and her husband David, their children Courtney Cote and her son Chad Welch Jr. and their daughter Kate Cote her daughter Madeline and husband Dennis Marcotte of Plaistow, their son Dennis Jr. and his wife Maria, their children Caitlynn, Brook-Lynne, and Matthew her son Gerald “Jerry” Whalen and his wife Alicia of Haverhill and their daughter Colleen Whalen. She is also survived by a brother Alfred Rogers of West Newbury and a sister Elizabeth Bill of Newburyport. She was predeceased by her siblings, Samuel, Clayton, Albert and Olive Rogers and Ruth Bill.Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend a Graveside service on Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM in St. James Cemetery, Primrose St. Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made in Marion’s name to the Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, 360 Merrimack St. #5, Lawrence, MA 01843. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill.
