North Andover – Thomas F. Maloney, 85, of Plum Island and North Andover, died Saturday, October 26 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Thomas F. Sr. and Adeline (McCarthy) Maloney. He attended Lawrence public schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School class of 1946. Upon graduation, Mr. Maloney proudly served his country enlisting in the U.S. Navy and being honorably discharged. He then continued his education and received his degree from St. Michaels College, graduating in 1952. Mr. Maloney was employed by the Federal Government as an Economist for over thirty-three years. He retired as the Assistant Regional Commissioner for the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor. Mr. Maloney loved the ocean almost as much as he loved the Red Sox, he had homes on Plum Island and Melbourne Beach, Florida. He was a true baseball fan and loved to travel. He and his partner of fifty- years, M. Elaine Murphy toured baseball parks around the country, and also toured Ireland. A dog lover, he always had treats available for neighborhood dogs who would come to visit him.He is survived by his life partner of fifty years, M. Elaine Murphy, of North Andover, her children, James “Shamus” Powers and his wife Kathy, of Monroe, NY, John “Sean” Powers and his wife, Nancy, of Haverhill, Kathleen D. Powers, of Sarasota, FL, and Jeremiah “Miah” Murphy, of Danville, NH. Nine grandchildren, Christopher, Sean, Jeffrey, and Jennifer Powers, Kara Margillo, Sarah and Maggie Powers, and Caitlin Roche and Mary Murphy, two great children, Leila and Dylan Margillo. He was predeceased by his sister, Denise Maloney.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Tuesday morning from 10:00 until 11:30 at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon at St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill.
