Haverhill – William J. Sullivan Jr., 80, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, January 28, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. Born in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late William J. Sullivan Sr and Mary J.(Norton) Sullivan, and husband of the late Margaret A. Sullivan. A lifelong member of St. James Parish, he was a graduate of St. James High School, class of 1952. He attended Merrimack College for the next 2-1/2 years before entering into the military. A U.S. Marine Veteran, Mr. Sullivan proudly served from 1955 until being honorably discharged in 1957. He then continued with his education at Merrimack College and received his degree in 1969. He had a career in management and consulting, eventually retiring from a position in the Veterans Administration.He leaves two sons, David W. Sullivan and his wife, Mary Baughman of Austin, TX, Shawn A. Sullivan and his wife, Anne Goddard, of Haverhill, five daughters, Kathleen M. Sullivan and her husband, Mel Webster, of North Reading, Mary E. Sullivan and her husband, Richard Wladkowski, of Somerville, Rebecca A. Voelker and her husband, Stefan, of Moers, Germany, Melanie G. Kutschke, and her husband, Karl, of Haverhill, and Patricia H. Sullivan and her partner, Lori Thornton, of Beverly and Haverhill, two sisters, Catherine Kamal, of Haverhill, and Frances Jean-Baptiste, of St. Croix and brother and sister-in-law Michael and Barbara Sullivan of Haverhill, brother in law, Thomas Shoemaker, of Nashua, NH, sisters in law, Virginia Sullivan, of North Andover, and Gale Sullivan, of Texas. In addition, he leaves grandchildren, Iris Baughman, Elisabeth and Thomas Webster, James and Lydia Sullivan, Peter and Anke Voelker, Madelaine, Jaxon, and Eleanor Kutschke, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Jane Sullivan, Helen Shoemaker, Joseph, James, and John.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home 486 Main St. Haverhill. Funeral services will begin on Friday at 12:00 PM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:00 PM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill.
