Salisbury \u2013 Dr. Richard \u2018Dick\u2019 J. Trainor, 96, passed away September 29, 2019 at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport with his loving family by his side.<\/p>\n
Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Thomas G. and Jane (Herring) Trainor. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of St. James High School, Class of 1941, and then proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy \u2013 receiving training at the Naval Flight School in Corpus Christi, TX.\u00a0 After receiving an honorable discharge, he served with the City of Haverhill Fire Department.\u00a0 He received his Chiropractic Physician Degree from Palmer College in Iowa, and then practiced in Haverhill for 30 years before retiring in 1983.\u00a0 After retirement, he moved to West Palm Beach, FL where he lived for 14 years. In 1996 he moved back to Salisbury, where he lived until his passing.<\/p>\n
Dr. Trainor enjoyed traveling, and he was an avid gardener who tended over numerous tomato plants well into his 90s.\u00a0 He was a passionate Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins fan his entire life, and he was a voracious reader who keep well-informed of local and national news.<\/p>\n
Dr. Trainor is survived by his children, Richard J. Trainor of Prescott, AZ; Lynn M. MacKellar and her husband Stephen of Leesburg, VA; Elizabeth Kelly Trainor of No. Andover, MA; six grandchildren, Sara Whitfield (MacKellar), Kelly, Colleen, Patrick, Tyler, and Meghan Trainor; great grandchildren, Desiree, Jillian, and Edward; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, William P. Trainor, brother, Col. Thomas G. Trainor and sister, Mary Sweeney. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and wonderful neighbors.<\/p>\n
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held October 26th<\/sup> 10am at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
