Burrell, 93"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amesbury \u2013 Norman M. Burrell, 93, of Amesbury, passed away Thursday, August 6 at the Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport with his family by his side.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Burrell was born and raised in Amesbury and lived there all of his life. He attended Amesbury public schools and Amesbury High School. He left high school to enlist in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and participated in the invasion at Normandy. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon his return home he returned to work at the Amesbury Hat Factory where he would spend most of his long career as a Mill \u2013 Wright, security guard, and general maintenance man for the various companies who would make the Hat Factory their place of business. Nobody knew that building better than he did.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Burrell was part of \u201cthe greatest generation\u201d and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He believed in faith, family and country. He built his own boat and named it after his wife, \u201cTiger Barb\u201d as he loved taking family and friends out on the river and ocean. He was known to have a vivid memory, keen wit, and told countless colorful stories.<\/p>\n<p>The widower of Barbara (Bunnell) Burrell who died in 1972, he is survived by his children; Robert L. Burrell, of Amesbury and Stella M. Bomba and her husband, Dennis of Merrimac, his cherished grandchildren; Troy Burrell and his wife, Emicille, William Bomba and his wife, Courtney, Stacha Gabriele and her husband troy, Samatha Bomba, Caitlin Valenzi, Dylan Valenzi and his wife, Chantel and William Valenzi and his fianc\u00e9, Ashley Papkey, nine great grandchildren; Isabella and William Burrell, Clayton Smith, Levi Bomba, Macy, Grace and Selah Gabriele, and Aubrey and Evelyn Valenzi. He was predeceased by a son, William M. Burrell, a daughter, Mary C. Valenzi, brothers; William and Donald and a sister, Elizabeth \u201cBetty\u201d Droullard.<\/p>\n<p>Family and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Tuesday, August 11 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill Rd. Amesbury. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, 10 Reed St. Haverhill, MA 01832.
