Methuen \u2013 Joseph L. \u201cLenny\u201d Carey, 75, husband of Kathleen F. (Callahan) Carey, passed away May 17, 2022 at his home after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer with his loving family by his side.<\/p>\n
Born in Arlington, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Rita Mulholland Carey. Raised in Arlington, he attended St. Agnes Grammar School and was in the first graduating class of Arlington Catholic High School, Class of 1964. He served his country in the United States Army in the United States and Heidelberg, Germany during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged. Lenny was a member of the St. Agnes Band and held many fond memories of that special time and the lasting friendships that were formed. In 1975, he graduated with a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Accounting from Bentley College. He worked in Mutual Funds at State Street Bank & Trust Company and Keystone Custodian Funds, where he met Kathleen, his wife of 49 years. Lenny also worked at The Kendall Company in Boston, a medical supply company. He spent the last 27 years of his career at Pan Am Systems as comptroller and treasurer, retiring as Assistant Vice President of Finance and Accounting. Lenny was a kindhearted and patient man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will always be remembered as a caring and supportive uncle. Lenny was a self made man with a strong work ethic who passed on these qualities to his family. A loving and devoted husband, Lenny will be missed by all who knew and loved him.<\/p>\n
In addition to his loving wife Kathleen, Lenny is survived by his nieces and nephews, Lisa Beucler of Medford; Mark Ranaghan of Medford; Stephen Ranaghan and his wife Jeannine of Arlington; Suzanne Fichera and her husband Russell of Methuen; Deborah McCool and her husband John of Methuen; and several great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Ranaghan and brother Gregory Carey.<\/p>\n
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, May 22 from 2:00PM until 4:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Monday, May 23 at St. Augustine\u2019s Church, 43 Essex St., Andover. Burial will follow, with full military honors, in Spring Grove Cemetery, 5 Spring Grove Rd. Andover. It was Lenny\u2019s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to Arlington Catholic High School.
