Haverhill – John O. Picariello, 88, husband of Roberta M. (Pickering) Picariello of Haverhill, MA passed away on January 5, 2026 at Penacook Nursing Home surrounded by his family.<\/p>\n
Born on January 27, 1937 in Boston, MA, John was the son of the late John and Frances Picariello. John was known for his wit, humor, storytelling skills and wise-guy attitude towards life. He enjoyed playing cards, spending a night at the casino, building anything \u201cjust because\u201d and vacationing with family. In his early years, John was a butcher for First National stores after working his way up from the produce department. He always enjoyed a good cigar, a neat glass of amaretto and entertaining a large group for Sunday Supper or a block party. John and his wife, Roberta, always had an \u201copen door\u201d policy no matter the day during their time on Emmet Street in South Boston. Later in life, they moved to the Fairways in Haverhill and John was involved as a member of the HOA Board where he actively participated in activities, cookouts and Bingo. John loved helping all those in need. But most of all, John thrived as his role of Papa.\u00a0 He showed up to every dance recital, baseball game, cheer competition, birthday party, and graduation with a blow horn to boot.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Roberta M. Picariello of Haverhill, MA. He is also survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Cheryl Queenan of Haverhill and his loving grandchildren, Rachel Queenan of Haverhill and Ryan Queenan and his wife Paige of Dover, NH.\u00a0 John also leaves behind his siblings Paul Picariello of Abington, Diane McHale of Weymouth, the late Frances Picariello of Marshfield, and two cherished great grandchildren, Calvin and Landon Queenan; as well as his godchild Gina Provenzano and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.<\/p>\n
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Friday, January 9, at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home 486 Main St. Haverhill from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 4:00 PM. Burial is private.
