Haverhill – Carmen Santiago, 72, wife of Miguel Gomez, passed away at Baker-Katz Nursing Home on October 2, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Adelina (Coreano) Santiago. She met her husband Miguel, with whom she was married for forty years, in the Bronx, New York. Carmen enjoyed the beach, fishing and walking at Winnekenni Castle in Haverhill. She was a seamstress for over 25 years in the Manhattan clothing industry among other places. She loved to dance, especially salsa dancing. Carmen was devoted to her family and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always available for her family and was a great babysitter.


In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her children, Raymond Velez and Christine Blair of Albany, NY; Rafael Rodriguez of Bronx, NY; her stepchildren, Migdalia Joubert of Haverhill, Carlos Guadalupe, Karen Guadalupe, Eliot Guadalupe and Elizabeth Maisonet; fourteen grandchildren including Michelle Velez and Raymond Velez, Jr.; and several great grandchildren. Carmen raised Rafael Rodriguez, Jr., her grandson, from birth.


Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, October 4 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will begin on Thursday morning at 8:00AM at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill.
