GROVELAND – James B. Billis, 67, born in Groveland MA, peacefully entered eternal life on February 26, 2024 in Fort Pierce FL.
Jim graduated from Pentucket High School in 1974. He retired from Lucent Technology, then worked as an electronic technician for L3 Communications at Boston Logan Airport before moving to Tennessee and then relocated to Florida two years ago to live with his brother where he received treatments and bravely fought a battle with cancer. Jimmy loved the outdoors. He was an avid hockey player, skier and softball player. He enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his Harley and nature walks.
Jimmy is survived by his brother, Stephen Billis and his wife Deborah, brother in law, Mark Williams, niece Kate and her husband Gabe Rogers and their children Gabriel, Jak and Meadow, nephew Jason and his wife Leborah Williams; and his partner in life, Barbara Meditz and family of Athens, TN. Jim is also survived by his dear cousins and many close lifelong friends. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Constantine and Joan (McCusker) Billis and his sister, Constance Williams.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Friday, March 8 from 4PM until 7PM, followed by a funeral home chapel service on Saturday, March 9 at 10AM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, Groveland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Jim to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401 or a charity of one’s choice. Having known the Billis’s for 30 years through Costa’s and my mom’s companionship, Jim and I would plant the gravesites together, take turns watering and became good friends. My condolences to the entire Billis family. Connie, Jim and Steve became extensions of our family. I am forever grateful for that. Jim, may you rest peacefully and visit us as I know you will. May God provide comfort to those left behind. I do believe the chain links again. I am so sorry I can’t be there for your services but you’ll be in my thoughts and prayers. March 8, 2024 at 2:56 amI made Jim’s acquaintance less than a year ago. A common friend recommended my mechanical services for the rebuilding of his treasured motorcycle. He brought it up to my shop near Louisville, KY and we spent an afternoon getting to know each other and planning out the build. When it became necessary for him to relocate to Florida, we agreed on a way for him to stay connected. Our meeting halfway between his home and mine was a joyous occasion delivering what parts he could handle for restoration. It underscored his determination to live his best life with the time he had available. It turned out to be less than we hoped, but through all of the treatments and tests we always spoke of what we were going to do when he was “back on his feet”. At his brother Steve’s request, the project will be finished so he can ride it and reconnect with the brother he loved.
