Haverhill – Rita (Petrou) Thompson, 95, wife of the late John J. Thompson, passed away April 6, 2019 at High Pointe Hospice in Haverhill with her loving family by her side.
Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late James and Sofia (Misserlis) Petrou. Raised and educated in Haverhill, she was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1944. She was a sales clerk for many years at Mitchell’s Department Store. An avid reader and homemaker, she enjoyed putting her family first. She had a passion for animals, especially cats and dogs. Rita had a strong faith and instilled in her children to be participants in the Greek Orthodox Church. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rita is survived by her daughter, Joyce Thompson of Long Beach, CA; three beloved grandchildren, Hannah Marini, Sara, and Layla Thompson; her sister, Mary Brostek of Seabrook, NH; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John J. Thompson, her sons Michael Thompson and John Thompson, brothers Arthur Petrou and John Petrou, sisters Bessie Grant and Elizabeth Karekos.
