Haverhill – Carmine A. Vannella, 78, of Haverhill, beloved husband of Peggy (Christian) Vannella, passed away Saturday April 6 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston surrounded by his family. He was born in Newark New Jersey, son of the late, Leonardo W. and Agnes R. (Napolitano) Vannella. He attended Newark schools and was a graduate of Newark High School class of 1958. He then enlisted into the U.S. Navy and proudly served for the next four years. He was honorably discharged and relocated to Florida where he would meet the love of his life. Whatever Carmine did in his life, he did it well. As a tax examiner for the I.R.S. for 25 years he was recognized by the U.S. Treasury Department with the Albert Gallatin Award for outstanding commitment. In 1984 while living in Florida he was recognized as “Father of the Year” by his friends and local newspaper in the community of Miami Springs. A devoted husband, father and friend, he loved family gatherings and was known to be a fantastic cook. He was an avid golfer and sports fan and was true to his Miami Dolphins and Red Sox. Enjoying the camp experience in norhtern New Hampshire gave him peace and relaxation where he spent much time hiking and just taking in nature’s beauty. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Peggy (Christian) Vannella and son, Anthony C. Vannella of Haverhill, nieces, nephews and extended family, all of whom will miss him. He was predeceased by his brothers, Leonardo and Joseph Vannella.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Friday from 4 :00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home 486 Main St. Haverhill. Funeral services will begin Saturday morning at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at !0:00 AM at St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill.
