Thomas E. Flaherty, Jr., 65, passed away June 18, 2019 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen surrounded by his loving family. Born in Marblehead, He was the son of the late Thomas E. Flaherty, Sr. and Elizabeth R. (Wheeler) Flaherty. Raised and educated in Marblehead, he was a graduate of Marblehead High School, Class of 1972. Tom worked as a finish carpenter for many years and took great pride in his craft. Whether he was building something, cooking a gourmet meal, planning a garden, or crafting his gorgeous birdhouses, Tom was a detail oriented man from start to finish. He was happiest outdoors, puttering with his projects, deep sea fishing, or riding down the Merrimack, especially when accompanied by the love of his life, Lesley. Together they shared endless laughter and adventures with family and friends. With his great sense of humor and corny jokes, it’s no surprise that Tom made friends wherever he went. If he walked into a room with small children, he’d sit right down on the floor and play silly games with them. If anyone needed help he would always step up whether he knew them or not. Tom will be deeply missed by all who loved him, including his four legged darling, Mia.
Tom is survived by his loving fiancée Lesley “Peli” (Braley) Zamansky of Haverhill; sisters, Susan Parker of Lowell; Jacquelyn Gagnon and her husband Kevin of Danvers; former wife Jane Buttons of Newburyport; Lesley’s sons, Eric Zamansky and his wife Katie of Windham, NH; Andrew Zamansky, Alex Zamansky and Noah Zamansky all of Haverhill; grandson Hunter Zamansky; his good friend Chuck Batchelder and his wife Pat of Plaistow, NH as well as several nieces and nephews.
