Aspacia “Honey” Vlahos Girard, 91

Aspacia “Honey” Vlahos Girard was born September 19, 1934 and passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.

Honey was born in Haverhill, MA, and was the youngest child of the late Constantinos “Charles” and Evangelia “Angelina” (Alpas) Vlahos. She was born and raised in Haverhill; graduating from Haverhill High School in 1952, married in 1954 and started her family in 1956.  Honey worked at BonBon’s Candy store at the age of 16 and after graduating she worked at several shoe factories, even working at home doing piece work when her children were young. She started her career at Western Electric in 1976 and retired in 1997 when it was Lucent Technologies.

Growing up the youngest of six children, to two Greek immigrants, her faith, nationality, and the Greek culture was very important to her.  Even after moving to Westville (which later became part of Plaistow), NH raising her family and teaching them the Greek traditions was very important to her. Greek Easter was our biggest holiday and Honey hosted it every year baking spinach pie, baklava, roasting a whole lamb in the front yard, and always taught all who stopped by the tradition and significance of the red eggs.  She was proud of her sons for continuing the tradition. The venue may have changed a few times, and scaled down, over the years, but Honey never stopped cooking for Greek Easter. Honey has been a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She also was a member of the Pioneers volunteering time with her friend Laura while at Lucent. Throughout her years at Lucent, and even after retiring, she enjoyed weekend trips to NY & Atlantic City with two of her best friends from work, Evelyn & Cathy.

She is survived by her son, Chris Girard, daughters, Linda and her husband Allen Stutts, Matina and her husband Mark Brown and her wonderful daughter in law, Debby Girard. Honey also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Amanda and her husband Travis Umphlette, Kellie and her husband Braxton Pearce, DJ Girard, Nick Girard and his husband Nate Zinck, and Jeremie Brown, Kira Brown, and Alexis Brown and her boyfriend Nathan Boyd. She also leaves behind her four great-grandchildren, Nathan Krick, Charleston Umphlette, Kinley Pearce and Cheyanne Mitchell; as well as her sister in law Patricia Saunders, her Godchild Helen Papazacharias and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Honey was predeceased by her sons Deno and David Girard, as well as her sisters Fannie Guvelis, Mary Johnson, Tanda Zatsos, and brothers, Bill and Peter Vlahos.  She was predeceased by her sister in laws, Sandra DiBurro, Betty Phelps, Maria and Joan Vlahos and her Godchild Brenda Kyrmizakis.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Monday, March 23rd from 10AM until 11AM, funeral mass to follow at 11AM at Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154 Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial at Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Aspacia’s memory to the Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 154 Winter Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.
