Big enough to serve you, small enough to know you.
Elsa Catalina Montero, 90

Elsa Catalina Montero, 90

Elsa Catalina Montero was born on April 18, 1935, in Baní, Dominican Republic. She fell asleep in death on March 10, 2026, at the age of 90.

Elsa spent much of her life working as a seamstress. She considered the Dominican Republic her home and carried its warmth and spirit with her throughout her life. Over the years she lived in Puerto Rico and New York City before settling in Lynn, Massachusetts, where she lived for many years surrounded by family and friends. She later became a citizen of the United States.

For more than sixty years, Elsa faithfully served as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her faith was the cornerstone and guiding force of her life. She was often seen reading her Bible and attending meetings at the Kingdom Hall. Elsa preached in her community with unwavering dedication. She was motivated by love for her faith and for people. Elsa was a founding member of the first Kingdom Hall congregation established in Lynn, Massachusetts, where she worshiped and served for many years. Later in life, she also attended the Kingdom Hall in Portland, Maine. Her devotion to her faith community and her steadfast belief touched and encouraged many.

Elsa’s life was marked by extraordinary generosity and compassion. She opened her home to nine foster children, caring for them as if they were her own. She also welcomed families in need, providing shelter and a place to live during difficult times. Elsa was a selfless helper whose home and heart were always open to those in need. To her family, Elsa was a pillar of strength, faith, and love. Her guidance, wisdom, and unwavering devotion shaped generations. She created a legacy not only through her words but through her actions by living a life that reflected kindness, humility, and deep trust in God.

Elsa was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and her son Victor. She is survived by her brother Romilio; her children Manuel, Miguel, Ana, Jose, Carmen, and Marizabel, and their families. She was also a beloved Abuela to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy throughout her life.

Family and friends find comfort in the Bible’s promise of the resurrection, as recorded at John 5:28–29, when those who have fallen asleep in death will live again. Elsa’s family looks forward to the time when they will welcome her again under God’s Kingdom, when, as promised at Revelation 21:3–4, sickness and death will be no more.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in support of research and care for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18 at 4 PM at the Lynn Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 60 North Federal Street, Lynn, MA, where family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of her life and to reflect on the hope she held dear. Please visit www.comeaufuneral.com or Comeau Funeral Home on Facebook.
