Marilyn Ruth (Dinsmore) Wentworth, 88, widow of Captain Richard H. “Dick” Wentworth Sr., HFD, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 8, 2026, at the Haverhill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center after a period of declining health.Mrs. Wentworth was born in Haverhill and was the daughter of the late Wilbur S. and Adeline F. (Burke) Dinsmore. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1955. She was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Merrimack Valley Visiting Nurses for twenty years where she enjoyed helping people.
Marilyn was a proud wife of a Haverhill firefighter, and especially proud that her son and grandson continued the family legacy as firefighters today also with the Haverhill Fire Department. During retirement, she and her husband, Dick, enjoyed many years in Florida before returning home to Haverhill. Together they enjoyed the Florida climate, playing cards, beach life, and Marilyn especially loved country music, including the American country quartet Mark209, NASCAR racing, and socializing with family and friends. She also rarely missed the sporting events and activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.
Marilyn is survived by her sons, Robert Vencis and Richard H. “Ricky” Wentworth Jr., both of Haverhill, MA; her daughter, Lisa A. Couture of Haverhill, MA; and her daughter-in-law, Caren Vencis of Exeter, NH. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Stacy Small, Amber Sullivan, Melanie Vencis, David Vencis III, Catie DiStefano, Trevor Couture, and Ryan Wentworth; and eight great-grandchildren: Evan Sullivan, Grady Stickney, Isla Sullivan, Sean Sullivan, Angelina DiStefano, Vincent DiStefano III, Owen Couture, and Caden Couture; and one on the way, Bode Vencis. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sons, Mark Vencis and David Vencis Jr.; and by her brothers, W. Stanley Dinsmore, Robert Dinsmore, and Donald Dinsmore.
With her passing, her family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, CNAs, activities staff, and caregivers at Haverhill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the compassion, care, kindness, and support shown to Marilyn during her time there.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to the calling hours on Wednesday, May 13, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 AM, also in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, John Ward Avenue, Haverhill.
Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Haverhill Firefighters Relief Fund, 75 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830.
