Mercedes D. Moreno Hernandez Mirabal, 75

HAVERHILL – Mercedes D. Moreno Hernandez Mirabal, a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister. Mercedes passed on July 24, 2026. She was born in the Dominican Republic on October 17, 1950, and moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 1962, where she grew up and began building the life that would become a beautiful story of family, love, and perseverance.

Mercedes graduated from high school in Brooklyn and went on to study at the Fashion Institute in Manhattan, where she developed her love and talent for fashion and sewing. In 1998, she eventually settled in Haverhill, Massachusetts, where she made her home and continued creating cherished memories with her family. Mercedes was a loving wife, devoted mother, and incredible grandmother. She was the kind of mother anyone could ever ask for—not only a mother, but also a best friend. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with the people she loved.

She especially loved Sunday family dinners, where everyone could gather around the table, share a meal, laugh, talk, and simply enjoy being together. Mercedes also enjoyed playing bingo with family and friends, sewing, doing her nails, and having her daughters do her hair. Above all, she loved being surrounded by her family and making memories with them.

Mercedes was the beloved widow of Bernardo Hernandez. She leaves behind her children, Yesenia Diaz, Cynthia Diaz, Sally Hernandez, Ezequiel Abreu, and Bernardo Hernandez, as well as her 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever carry her love and memories in their hearts. She is also survived by her brothers, Jesus Soto, Luis Moreno, and Pascual Mirabal, and her sisters, Miriam Soto and Juana Aleman. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Raphael Soto.

Mercedes leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, family devotion, strength, and countless beautiful memories. Her absence will be deeply felt, but the love she gave so freely will remain with her family forever. She was not only a mother and grandmother—she was a best friend, a source of comfort, and the heart of her family.
