GROVELAND, MA — John P. “Jack” Bevelaqua, 72, of Alton, New Hampshire, formerly of Groveland, Massachusetts, died suddenly but peacefully on August 5, 2026, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
Jack was born in Haverhill on September 27, 1953, to Philip and Alice (Parker) Bevelaqua. He was raised in Groveland and later chose to raise his own family in the same community.
A graduate of Pentucket Regional High School and Merrimack College, Jack spent the early part of his career in politics. He worked for many years as a state Senate aide in Sharon Pollard’s office before joining the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, where he spent the remainder of his career as a project manager, working to make a difference.
Jack loved the outdoors and was an avid skier and hiker throughout his life. Many of his younger years were spent in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He was known to hitchhike north and then hike or canoe his way back. His stories of standing on the head of the Old Man of the Mountain and skiing Tuckerman Ravine will live in our family stories forever.
He was also an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed ice cream, Diet Coke, and his part-time job working at Buchika’s Ski & Bike. Those who listened to WHAV may also remember hearing him share his opinions on the station’s Open Mic program.
Above all else, Jack loved his family.
He is survived by his partner, Colleen Lesure of Alton, NH; his three daughters, Sarah B. Doucette and her husband Ryan of Groveland, Laura Rasmussen and her husband David of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and Allison Bevelaqua of Haverhill; and his six grandchildren, Noah Doucette, Eva Doucette, Milo Doucette, Brynn Rasmussen, Charlie Rasmussen, and Morgan Rasmussen, who gave him such a kick in life.
He is also remembered by his former wife, Cathy, with whom he raised their three daughters.
Jack is additionally survived by his brothers, James Bevelaqua and his wife Barbara of Woodbury, Connecticut, William Bevelaqua and his wife Joyce of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Patrick Bevelaqua and his fiancée Cindy of Groveland; and his sisters, Joan Bevelaqua and Robert Pagelsen of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Katherine Shores and her husband Roland of Methuen.
He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Alice Bevelaqua, and his sister, Jane Ring.
