Brunswick, GA – Richard Paul Atkinson, 48, a disabled Army veteran, passed away March 2, 2020 suddenly after a heart attack.
Born in Topsfield on December 19, 1971, he was the son of the late Ray Atkinson and Carol (Chew) Colburn of Haverhill. Raised and educated in Topsfield, he attended Masconomet Regional High School, graduating in the Class of 1990. Further, he studied at ITT Tech and Norwich University. Rick served his country with honor in the United States Army. A painter by trade and a Fiber Optic Technician, he loved the outdoors, nature, sunsets and the beach. With an adventurous spirit, he enjoyed traveling and had a zest for life. Rick always had a smile on his face and a witty sense of humor. He will be most remembered as a dad who loved his girls and family, a passionate American, and an avid Patriot’s football fan. Rick will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rick is survived by his beloved mother Carol of Haverhill and his two daughters, Chloe and Molly Atkinson of Screven, GA; sisters, Kathleen Dusombre and her husband Gib of Haverhill; Deborah Stuberg and her husband Ray of Murrietta, CA; Jeannie Colburn of San Diego, CA and Susan Derosier of Worcester; brothers, Dana Atkinson of Dover, NH and Wayne Atkinson of Worcester; nieces and nephews, Melissa, Brianna, Ray, Cody, Tammy, Mandy, Robbie, David, Kerry, Dana, Christie and he held a special brotherly bond with nephews John, Nickolas and Shane.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, March 8 from 3:00PM until 6:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 10:00AM on Monday with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main Street, Bradford at 11:00AM.
